James Schwartz
June 25, 1943 – February 7, 2026
James Chase Schwartz (Jim) was born on June 25, 1943, in Deming, NM to Henry Schwartz and Fay Ne Evans. Jim and his sister Marilyn were raised in the small town of Faben, Texas. Jim’s early life was marked by a profound curiosity and an unwavering spirit of adventure.
From an early age, Jim displayed his diverse talents and interests. He began flying airplanes and earned his pilot’s license by the age of fifteen. Taking on the unique job of flying cattle auctioneers across TX and NM. During these early years, he formed enduring friendships with individuals like John & Janie Shockley and Len Giazi.
Jim excelled academically in high school. However, the transition to college posed its own challenges where he experienced a setback during his first semester. Undeterred, Jim took this in stride and pivoted towards a path and enlisted in the Navy alongside his friend Steven Powell where he served with distinction for four years, stationed in San Diego.
After his service, Jim returned to El Paso and enrolled at the University of Texas, where he pursued a business degree. It was there that he met lifelong friend Migel Sandoval. Jim also spent a memorable summer studying in Sweden, expanding his global perspective.
Following his undergraduate studies, Jim earned a master’s degree in international business from the Thunderbird School of Global Management where he met Steven Pollock. His career took him throughout the world, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and South America. His professional journey also led him to Germany, where he contributed to the shredder industry under Dr. Trapp.
Upon returning to the United States, Jim’s career diversified and was enhanced by Michael Sandoval and Hanni Hartman. Steve McGlothlin and David Woody separated from Newel and started Texas Shredder and soon after Jimmy joined them. Texas Shredder went from a small office selling parts to a multi-million-dollar leader in building, innovations in Europe, South Africa, Korea, Australia, and New Zealand.
Fluent in several languages, including Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Swedish, and a touch of Italian, Jim’s ability to communicate effortlessly across cultures was a significant asset.
While residing at the Sun Ray Apartments for over 13 years, he met John Hash, Chuck Frawley and “Pancho” Frank Prather. Jimmy valued his time spent at McAllister Park with the “Mac Pac,” a group of about 60 enthusiasts who ran three times a week. Jim’s passion for running took him to marathons around the world. He also enjoyed winter months, engaging in cross-country skiing and downhill racing.
Charlie Amato a mentor and friend introduced Jimmy to the Society of Business Fellows. An organization that assisted international businesses in culture and history of companies throughout the world.
Among Jim’s great loves was sailing on a boat named “Prussians Gloria.” He also sailed the Caribbean with Hanni Hartman.
A confirmed bachelor at the age of 50, Jim’s life took a decisive turn when he met Cynthia Clark at the Sun Ray Apartments. Jim and Cynthia were neighbors; in time their bond grew into Husband & Wife. A union that lasted 30+ years.
James Chase Schwartz leaves behind a legacy of adventure, friendship, and love. His life was a testament to the belief that one should pursue their passions with dedication and an open heart. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Rest in peace, Jim. Your journey, both on Earth and in the skies above, will always be remembered.
