Patrick Gerard King, aged 78, passed away on March 21, 2026, in Bastrop, Texas. Patrick, known as Pat, was born on August 19, 1947 to his parents, Roskoe King and Bridget Grogan, in Borger, Texas. Pat was the eldest of 14 children. He always did his best to make sure his brothers and sisters were well taken care of, even from a young age.
Pat graduated from Borger High School in 1965. He dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player and was scouted, but had to put his plans on hold when he was drafted into the Vietnam War in 1967. Pat served in the Navy until 1969. He had the highest grade in the state of Texas on the military entrance exam. Once home from military service, Pat proudly attended Harvard Business School and went on to excel in multiple industries over the years. Pat valiantly battled illness for nearly 40 years, but he never let it keep him down.
Pat always said that his greatest accomplishment was being the husband of his beautiful wife, Patti. They met when Patti was a teenager. Pat and Patti were married on November 7, 1970, and were happily married for 55 years. Pat created a website of poetry he had written for Patti called poemsforpatti.com to be a legacy of his love and devotion.
“Stretched within the membrane of time is where I’ll be,
Forever I’m embedded as yours by words written by me,
A century of prepaid words of rhyme written for all to view,
Forever when I’m gone is written how much I still love you.”
Pat’s favorite time was spent by his wife, Patti’s side–it didn’t matter what they were doing. He loved hanging out with his kids and grandkids, watching movies, discovering new music, fixing up cars, going out to eat, and had big dreams of building an airplane. Pat was highly intelligent and could fix most anything he touched. He was loved and respected by many.
He is preceded in death by his father, Roskoe King; mother, Bridget King; brother, Johnny King; sisters, Noreen King, Edi King, and Peggy Townsend.
Pat is survived by his wife, Patti King; his son, James King, and his wife, Robbie; his daughter, Susan Kishk, and her husband, Isaac; his grandchildren, Aislynn Kishk, Bella (Kaitlyn) Tolbert, Matthew Kishk, Riley King, and Sarah Kishk; his great-grandchildren, Shiloh and Nate Tolbert. Brothers, Mike (Nancy) King, Steve (Lisa) King, Kevin (Debbie) King, Brian (Sherry) King, David (Sherryl) King, Bob (Debi) King, and Tim (Kelley) King. Sisters, Gladie King and Kathie (David) King. As well as many nieces and nephews and extended family members.
A memorial mass will be held on April 10th at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 302 West 11th Street, Elgin, Texas.
