George Ray Kipp passed away on Friday, April 3, in Round Rock, Texas, surrounded by his family.
George was born on May 25, 1944, in Houston, Texas, to George Ruben “Bud” Kipp and Dorothy Louise (Wells) Kipp. He graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in 1962. After high school, he began a 27-year career at Southwestern Bell/AT&T. In those 27 years, he only missed one day of work and that was to take his wife to be with her father in the hospital. After retirement from AT&T, he began a second career as an entrepreneur in the network systems industry.
Throughout all the years of dedicated service to the company he worked for, George’s true passion in life was his family. He loved nothing more than his family and not a day passed where he failed to prove that to them.
In 1971, George married LaNell Manning and for the next 55 years the two of them rarely left each other’s side. In 1978, they welcomed their first child, Alicia Renee, and two years later their son, Buddy, was born.
George was an avid sports fan. Playing and excelling in both football and baseball in school and then semi-professionally riding broncos and bulls in his 20s. Later in life you could find him at a baseball field, basketball court, or poolside at a water polo game watching his grandsons pursue their passions. When attending in person became too difficult, he always had his phone close so he could watch on GameChanger.
George is preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Louise, and sister, Bobbie. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, LaNell, his daughter, Alicia Flick (husband Eddie), his son, Buddy Kipp (wife Holly), his grandsons, Sam Flick, Bowen and Caleb Kipp, and his aunt, Betty Carter, as well as various nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Buddy Kipp, Eddie Flick, Sam Flick, Bowen Kipp, Jerod Rebecek, and Adam Thompson. Serving as Honorary Pallbearer will be Caleb Kipp.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, at Beck Funeral Home (5709 Ranch Road 620 N Austin, TX 78717), followed by a graveside service and burial at Palm Valley Lutheran Church in Round Rock. Pastor Jordan Elder of Redeemer Round Rock will officiate.
