Elaine HOLMES
10/23/1935 – 11/27/2025
Elaine Christine Armbruster Holmes, age 90, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, humor, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Elaine was born on October 23, 1935, in Ellis, Kansas, to Ella and Ernest Armbruster. She graduated from Ellis High School and went on to graduate from the University of Kansas in 1964 with a degree in elementary education. She began her career as a teacher with the Denver Public Schools, where she was selected to teach on television as part of the school system’s educational programming. It was during her time in Denver that she met her future husband, Robert Holmes – the beginning of a lifelong partnership built on love, adventure, and family.
Known by many as “Elaine the Faire,” she carried herself with grace, warmth, and a welcoming spirit that drew people to her. Elaine was known for her love of entertaining and her joy in cooking for family and friends. Her home was often filled with laughter, conversation, and the comforting aromas of meals prepared with care. An avid football fan, Elaine rarely missed a game and loved cheering on her favorite teams, especially when surrounded by family.
She was instrumental in getting her family involved in skiing. With determination and enthusiasm, she led the charge onto the slopes and made sure everyone learned. True to form, once the rest of the family finally got the hang of it, she decided she had done her part and abruptly retired from the sport – a story that remained a favorite family memory.
Elaine cherished traveling abroad with her beloved Robert. Together they explored new places and cultures, always searching for unique antiques and special treasures that would later hold stories of their adventures. Whether hosting a gathering, watching a game, recounting memories from their travels, or laughing about ski trips, Elaine brought energy and warmth to everything she did. Above all, she treasured time with her family.
Her words, “Love you more!” and “Love you to the moon and back!” will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew her. They were more than phrases – they were daily reminders of the depth of her affection and the generosity of her heart.
Elaine loved the Lord with her whole heart, and it was evident in every part of her life. Her deep faith in God guided her steps and brought comfort to everyone around her. She didn’t just speak of God’s love – she lived it daily. That light will never fade from the many lives she touched. She was a true reflection of God’s grace.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Robert Holmes; her sons, Christopher Palmer Holmes, Mark Andrew Holmes, and Matthew Robert Holmes; her daughters-in-law, Leisa Holmes and Carol Holmes; her grandchildren, Campbell, Meghan, Maddie, Keller, Reagan, and Walker; and her sister, Ellen Doffing of Marble Falls, Texas.
She will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, her sense of humor, and the love she so freely gave.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Preston Meadow Lutheran Church, 6801 Coit Road, Plano, Texas 75024.
