Shirley (Smith) Mokry McMurray, age 89, of Florence, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026.
She was born on February 11, 1937, in Austin, Texas, to Richard Leon Smith and Avis Inez Daughtry Webb. Shirley grew up in Central Texas, where she developed the deep faith and love for family that would define her life. She later married the love of her life, Grover McMurray, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service.
Shirley was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who found her greatest joy in her family and in serving the Lord. She faithfully served as Church Secretary at Leander Assembly of God for nearly 30 years. In that role, she was known for her dedication, kindness, strength, helpful spirit, and genuine love for her work and church family. She touched countless lives through her quiet service and unwavering faith.
She loved traveling with her husband Grover. She especially loved trips to the beach and RV’ing at the lake with family. She treasured family gatherings, meeting friends for lunch, attending church fellowships, and shopping outings with her daughter. Shirley also found joy in reading, working in her garden, and praying faithfully for others. Her home was always welcoming and filled with warmth, laughter, and love.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Gay Mokry Smith and husband Harry; her sons, Scott Mokry and Chris Mokry (Julie); her grandchildren, Matthew Manning, Christopher Mokry, Luke Mokry, and Lora Mokry; her great-grandchildren, Arian, Anniston, Alizah, and Colter; her sisters, Faye Williamson, Charlotte Teltow, and Wanda Hester; and her brothers, Richard Smith and Bert Webb; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Grover McMurray; her precious daughter-in-law, Terri Mokry; her parents; her brother, Frankie Smith; and her sister, Helen Smith.
A memorial service will be held at Beck Funeral Home, 1700 E. Whitestone Blvd, Cedar Park, Texas on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 10:00 a.m..
Shirley’s legacy of love for her family and her steadfast faith in Jesus will live on in all who knew her. She leaves behind a testimony of devotion, love, kindness, and a life beautifully lived for others.
